Best app to verify a buyer in India (2026): how to choose

There is no single "best" app for every supplier. The right one depends on what you need to know about a buyer: whether the GST number is real, whether the company is financially sound, or whether other suppliers have already been left unpaid. This guide sets out the criteria and an honest shortlist.

Short answer

Choose an app that answers the question you actually face before a credit sale: should I give this buyer credit, and how much? That needs GST status and filing, court cases, the owner's or company's credit record and any reported defaults in one place. FundRaksha Trust does this on a pay-per-check basis with a free basic GST check. Tofler is stronger on company financial statements; KnowYourGST and the GST portal are fine for free GST lookups.

What a buyer-verification app should tell you

Before you ship on credit you want to know four things. Is the buyer who they say they are? Are they still filing GST returns? Have they been taken to court or failed to repay loans? Have other suppliers already been left unpaid? An app that only answers the first question is a GST lookup, useful but not enough for a ₹5 lakh order on 60 days.

  • Identity: GSTIN status, legal name, trade name and registration date, matched against the purchase order.
  • Compliance: the GST filing record, including late and missing returns.
  • Financial behaviour: a credit score or loan repayment record for the business or its owner.
  • Legal history: court cases, tribunal matters and FIRs.
  • Peer warnings: defaults reported by other suppliers.
  • A decision: a plain recommendation on credit terms, not just raw data.

Criteria to compare

CriterionWhy it matters
Price modelPer-check pricing suits a supplier who checks a few new buyers a month; an annual plan suits a team doing research every day
Proprietorships and firmsMany Indian buyers are not companies, so MCA-based tools have nothing on them; GST-based checks cover every GST-registered business
ConsentPersonal credit data on an owner should only be fetched with the owner's consent
Mobile appSales teams decide on credit while the buyer is on the phone
Recovery toolsIf the buyer later defaults, the same app can follow up or send a notice
RefundsA check that fails to return data should not cost you anything

An honest shortlist

FundRaksha Trust

A strong choice for Indian SMEs selling on credit. The basic GST check is free without sign-up. The Advance GST report (129 RP) adds a GST health score, filing record and supplier-reported defaults; the GST + Financial report (499 RP) adds the owner's credit score and loan record, court cases, tribunals and FIRs, and a give-credit, caution or avoid decision. Failed checks are refunded. It runs on Android and the web. Best for: manufacturers, distributors and traders checking new buyers.

Tofler

Tofler says its data is sourced from official government filings such as the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and that its database covers over 10 million Indian businesses. It offers financial statements, ratio analysis and a Tofler Score. Plans start at ₹15,000 + GST a year (Pro, 40 credits). Stronger than Trust for: reading a company's balance sheet over several years. Best for: analysts and finance teams researching companies.

KnowYourGST and the GST portal

KnowYourGST offers free GST number verification and a search by name or PAN, with paid bulk search and APIs. The GST portal's Search Taxpayer is free and official. Best for: a quick identity check on one GSTIN.

TransUnion CIBIL Company Credit Report

CIBIL describes its Company Credit Report as a record of a company's credit history built from information lenders submit, with a CIBIL Rank from 1 (best) to 10. It is the business's own report, so in practice you ask a large buyer to share it.

Who should pick what

  • You sell goods on credit to traders and small manufacturers: a GST-based tool with court and defaulter data, such as FundRaksha Trust.
  • You are extending a large limit to a private limited company: add a financial-statement tool such as Tofler, or ask for the buyer's CIBIL report.
  • You only need to confirm a GSTIN before raising an invoice: the free GST portal, KnowYourGST or the GSTIN validator.
  • You are a CA checking buyers for several clients: see Trust for CAs.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Yes, for the identity part. The GST portal's Search Taxpayer and the FundRaksha Trust basic check are free. Credit score, court and default data cost money everywhere, because the underlying data is paid for.
