FundRaksha Book

Tally alternative for small shops

TallyPrime is the accounting software most Indian CAs know, and many shops buy it because their accountant uses it. But a small shop mainly needs fast counter billing, stock and udhaar, which can be done more simply and for less.

Short answer

TallyPrime is a full accounting system with inventory, GST compliance, e-invoicing and e-way bills, priced from ₹750 a month + GST (Silver, single PC) or ₹22,500 + GST for a lifetime Silver licence. A small shop that needs only counter billing, stock and credit can use FundRaksha Book at ₹999 a year after 300 free invoices, and give its CA the exports. Keep Tally if you need full books of account in-house.

When Tally is the right tool

  • You keep full books of account (ledgers, balance sheet, bank reconciliation) in-house.
  • Your turnover is above ₹5 crore and you need e-invoicing, or you generate e-way bills often.
  • Your CA works directly in your Tally data.
  • You run several companies, branches or godowns from one system.

In those cases, Tally (or a desktop ERP such as Marg or BUSY) is the stronger choice, and a simple billing app is not a replacement.

When a simpler tool is enough

Many small shops use Tally only for billing, and the owner or a part-time accountant posts entries at month end. If your real daily needs are scan-and-bill, stock from purchases, barcode labels, udhaar and a profit figure, then a shop billing app does that with less training, on a phone or any browser, and your CA can work from exported sales, purchases and ledgers.

What FundRaksha Book gives a small shop

  • GST tax invoice with HSN summary, CGST and SGST or IGST; bill of supply for composition
  • Scan-and-bill with a USB or Bluetooth scanner or the camera
  • Purchase entry that creates stock and sets prices from your margin
  • Barcode labels per batch on A4 sheets or thermal rolls
  • Customer and supplier ledgers, payments, expenses
  • Profit, day-wise, stock summary, money to collect and money to pay reports, exportable to CSV, Excel and PDF

What it does not give: double-entry accounts, a balance sheet, bank reconciliation, GST return files, e-invoices or e-way bills. If you need those, keep Tally for accounting and decide whether you also want a counter app.

FundRaksha Book is free for the first 300 invoices, with every feature switched on and no card needed. Sales and purchase invoices both count. After that, Pro is ₹999 a year for unlimited invoices, paid by UPI, card or net banking; the site says prices include applicable taxes as charged at checkout. See book.fundraksha.com.

Worked example: five-year cost for a single-counter shop

OptionFive-year software cost (before GST where stated)
TallyPrime Silver, lifetime₹22,500 + 18% GST once (includes 1 year of TSS)
TallyPrime Silver, 12-month plan₹9,000 a year list price, so ₹45,000 + GST over five years
FundRaksha Book₹999 a year after the free 300 invoices, so about ₹5,000 over five years

The Tally lifetime figure includes one year of TSS (Tally Software Services); later years of TSS are extra, so check the renewal price with Tally. The right answer depends on whether you need accounting in-house: if your CA does the books from your exports, the cheaper tool is often enough.
