FundRaksha HR gives Mumbai employers GPS check-in on employees' own phones (only inside the office radius, one phone per employee), leave, shift rosters and a payroll that computes PF, ESI, PT and TDS, with payslip PDFs and PF ECR, ESI, bank and Tally files. Maharashtra profession tax: nil up to ₹7,500 for men and ₹25,000 for women; ₹200 a month with ₹300 in February at the top slab. Plans cost ₹49, ₹79 or ₹99 per employee per month plus GST, with a 30-day free trial.
Mumbai's workforce and its HR problems
Mumbai's main employers are textiles and garments, finance and services, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, media and advertising, and import-export trading. Garment units need clean daily attendance for ESI-covered workers, agencies need hybrid rules, and pharma and trading firms have staff out at clients all day.
Long commutes and local-train delays turn late marks into a monthly argument, and many firms have two or three small offices.
- Late marks disputed every month because there is no reliable check-in time
- Two or three offices (for example a BKC sales office and an Andheri workshop) each with different hours
- Hybrid staff whose work-from-home days are tracked on WhatsApp
- The Maharashtra women's PT threshold being missed in a spreadsheet
Maharashtra payroll rules for a Mumbai employer
Profession tax applies to salaries in Maharashtra, with separate thresholds for men and women under Schedule I as in force from 1 April 2023. The top slab is ₹2,500 a year, collected as ₹200 a month and ₹300 in February.
| Monthly salary | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| Up to ₹7,500 | Nil | Nil |
| ₹7,501 to ₹10,000 | ₹175 a month | Nil |
| ₹10,001 to ₹25,000 | ₹200 a month, ₹300 in February | Nil |
| Above ₹25,000 | ₹200 a month, ₹300 in February | ₹200 a month, ₹300 in February |
Labour welfare fund. Contributions go to the Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board online at public.mlwb.in. It is not one of FundRaksha HR's listed files, so diarise it.
Shops and establishments. The Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017 and its 2018 rules apply. The Labour Department publishes them at mahakamgar.maharashtra.gov.in. The four Labour Codes have been in force since 21 November 2025; state Shops and Establishments Acts continue alongside them.
ESI covers employees earning up to ₹21,000 a month (employee 0.75%, employer 3.25%); PF is 12% from each side. Check cases with the PF and ESI calculators.
How FundRaksha HR handles it in Mumbai
- Each office gets its own GPS radius
- Office, work-from-home or hybrid mode per employee; forgotten check-outs are closed at night and flagged
- Late marks follow the attendance rules you set, and the record is the same one the employee sees
- Payroll on Pro computes PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS and produces the PT file; check the women's slab on your first run
Admins work from the mobile app or the web console, and PAN, Aadhaar and bank numbers are encrypted and masked.
Worked example: an Andheri agency with 30 people
An agency has 18 men and 12 women earning ₹20,000 to ₹60,000 a month, with designers at home on Fridays. Every man pays ₹200 a month PT (₹300 in February). A woman on ₹22,000 pays nothing; one on ₹30,000 pays ₹200. Get the threshold wrong and payslips are wrong all year.
On Pro at ₹79 per employee it pays ₹2,370 a month plus GST for GPS check-in, hybrid Fridays and a monthly PT file.
Getting started: a one-week checklist
- Import employees from Excel and invite them with your company code.
- Add each Mumbai office, plant or site with its GPS radius.
- Set attendance rules, holidays, week-offs and shifts.
- Enter salary structures and confirm the Maharashtra PT treatment on a test month.
- Run payroll, check payslips, then download the PF ECR, ESI, bank and Tally files.
