Madhya Pradesh profession tax: on annual salary: nil up to ₹2,25,000, then ₹125, ₹166 or ₹208 a month. Plans cost ₹49, ₹79 or ₹99 per employee per month plus GST, with a 30-day free trial.
Indore's workforce and its HR problems
Pharmaceuticals, textiles and garments, soya and food processing, auto components and IT services are the city's main employers. Pithampur plants run shifts with buses bringing staff from Indore; distributors employ medical representatives and delivery staff.
Madhya Pradesh is one of the few states that fixes profession tax on annual salary, with a different twelfth-month amount. That makes it easy to get wrong in a spreadsheet.
- Plant attendance affected by late company buses
- Medical representatives and delivery staff in the field
- MP PT with a twelfth-month adjustment that spreadsheets miss
- Wholesale cloth firms with small teams and no HR person
Madhya Pradesh payroll rules for a Indore employer
Madhya Pradesh fixes profession tax on annual salary. Up to ₹2,25,000 a year there is no tax. From ₹2,25,001 to ₹3,00,000 it is ₹1,500 a year (₹125 a month). From ₹3,00,001 to ₹4,00,000 it is ₹2,000 (₹166 a month for eleven months and ₹174 in the twelfth). Above ₹4,00,000 it is ₹2,500 (₹208 for eleven months and ₹212 in the twelfth).

Shops and establishments. The Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act, 1958 applies to shops and commercial establishments; registration is with the state Labour Department. The four Labour Codes have been in force since 21 November 2025; state Shops and Establishments Acts continue alongside them.
ESI covers employees earning up to ₹21,000 a month (employee 0.75%, employer 3.25%); PF is 12% from each side. Check cases with the PF and ESI calculators.
