Payroll and attendance software in Ludhiana

Ludhiana's hosiery and knitwear units, bicycle and parts makers, sewing machine and machine-tool factories and fastener plants are mostly owner-run businesses of 20 to 200 people. Hosiery peaks before winter, and every unit runs on a mix of permanent and seasonal workers.

Short answer

FundRaksha HR gives Ludhiana employers GPS check-in on employees' own phones (only inside the office radius, one phone per employee), leave, shift rosters and a payroll that computes PF, ESI, PSDT and TDS, with payslip PDFs and PF ECR, ESI, bank and Tally files. Punjab profession tax: none by that name; the Punjab State Development Tax of ₹200 a month applies instead. Plans cost ₹49, ₹79 or ₹99 per employee per month plus GST, with a 30-day free trial.

Ludhiana's workforce and its HR problems

Hosiery and knitwear, bicycles and bicycle parts, sewing machines and machine tools, auto components and fasteners are the city's main employers. Factories in Focal Point and the industrial areas run shifts; knitwear units add staff from August to November.

Punjab has no profession tax by that name but levies the Punjab State Development Tax under its 2018 Act, deducted from employees where it applies.

  • Seasonal hiring for the knitwear season
  • Owner approving every advance and leave personally
  • Machine shop and assembly on different shift timings
  • PSDT left out of payroll or applied to the wrong people

Punjab payroll rules for a Ludhiana employer

Punjab has no tax called profession tax, but it levies the Punjab State Development Tax under the Punjab State Development Tax Act, 2018. The Excise and Taxation Department's notices refer to the ₹200 a month deduction from employees, and its December 2024 clarification ties the levy to income-tax thresholds. Employers register and pay on psdt.punjab.gov.in. Treat it like PT in payroll and confirm which employees it applies to.

Shops and establishments. The Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958 applies, with registration through the Labour Department, pblabour.gov.in. The four Labour Codes have been in force since 21 November 2025; state Shops and Establishments Acts continue alongside them.

ESI covers employees earning up to ₹21,000 a month (employee 0.75%, employer 3.25%); PF is 12% from each side. Check cases with the PF and ESI calculators.

How FundRaksha HR handles it in Ludhiana

  • Excel import for seasonal joiners, counted only in months they are employed
  • Mobile admin app with approvals by manager, admin or both
  • Shift roster and rules on Pro
  • Payroll with PF, ESI and TDS; set the PSDT deduction during the trial with the FundRaksha HR team

Admins work from the mobile app or the web console, and PAN, Aadhaar and bank numbers are encrypted and masked.

Worked example: a knitwear unit with a winter peak

A knitwear maker employs 60 permanent workers and adds 25 seasonal machine operators from August to November. All are within ESI. The owner approves advances and leave from his phone, and the roster separates the knitting and stitching shifts.

On Pro at ₹79 per employee, the bill is ₹4,740 a month plus GST off-season and ₹6,715 in the four peak months. PF ECR and ESI files come from each run; PSDT is applied to the staff it covers.

Getting started: a one-week checklist

  1. Import employees from Excel and invite them with your company code.
  2. Add each Ludhiana office, plant or site with its GPS radius.
  3. Set attendance rules, holidays, week-offs and shifts.
  4. Enter salary structures and confirm the Punjab PSDT treatment on a test month.
  5. Run payroll, check payslips, then download the PF ECR, ESI, bank and Tally files.
